Who?

Counterpoint is an a cappella group, made up of members from Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges (The Bi-College community, or “Bi-Co”). We sing all types of genres from Top 40 hits to folk songs with our roots being primarily in jazz, rock, gospel, soul, and R&B.

Counterpoint was founded Fall 2007 by Bryn Mawr alumnae Martha Fitzgerald ’09 and Shannon Murphy ’09 when they noticed a void in the musical genres represented by groups in the Bi-Co. Since then, Counterpoint has sung arrangements of songs by many artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Muse, Poe, Eva Cassidy, Aretha Franklin, and The Killers.

What kinds of events do we perform at? What do we do during the year?

We typically host two end of semester shows showcasing our entire repertoire, one at Haverford, and one at Bryn Mawr. In the meantime, we perform at a cappella jams, community events, private parties, May Day–you name it. If you’d like to perform with us or host us at an event, please contact Katherine Cunningham or Brooke Ford.

In addition, Counterpoint enters the recording studio each semester for a forthcoming CD; has sleep overs; chases black squirrels; scares away owls; and in general, has a rousing good time!

When can I audition?

Counterpoint holds auditions at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters at both Haverford and Bryn Mawr locations. Stay tuned for official dates.

When and where are rehearsals? What is the weekly time committment?

We typically rehearse in a two hour session twice per week, with one rehearsal at Haverford and the other at Bryn Mawr. In addition, we hold weekly 1hr sectionals to really polish up our pieces.  Our rehearsal schedule accommodates members’ schedules to ensure that everyone is able to attend. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and concerts, as well learn all assigned pieces before rehearsal.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?
